Where did June go? (June Newsletter…)
The thing is…when I have a deadline, all other thoughts, projects, and articles drift away. So that’s where June went.
OK. It’s hot out and I hope you all are keeping cool! I have been working on a pattern to get it up on Ravelry for a group that will be knitting it for a KAL, which is great! And “the end of June” sounded perfectly reasonable in March, I think it was. Well, I have this problem of trying to get ahead of my projects so I can manage them– not the projects managing me. I guess you see the issue. Onto more interesting subjects than my dysfunctional work life.
I have been dreaming of Italy. My trip is a “go” but there are still more spaces! You can find more info about my September travel on my website. You can even download the itinerary and highlights from that webpage.
We will visit Burano, an island in the Venetian Lagoon, and it’s 4 kilometers from Venice proper. It is known for the lace-making there and the multi-colored houses on the island. The population is under 3,000 people. Wikipedia says that the lace made in Burano was in high demand from the 16th century on and was exported across Europe, beginning when the women began to use needles to make their lace. (I guess as opposed to bobbins?) But by the 18th century, the market began to decline, until a school was established there in 1872, bringing on a second boom. Of course because lace is very time-consuming to make, it is very expensive. But I am excited to see the school!

I am still fighting with Substack, (trying to remember how to make it do what I want) so please excuse my growing pains here.
As far as future workshops (as I usually list in my newsletter), I am already getting bookings for 2026, though I need to keep these secret until the organizers want to announce the events. For the remainder of 2025:
I’ll be in Italy from Sept. 25 to October 6, and will teach a class on Estonian Roosemine:
The Autumn Vermont Retreat will be held Oct. 30 to November. 2, and I’ll teach the Swedish North Halland Red and Black Pullover.
And last, Nov. 17 to Dec. 4, I will teach four classes on a Holland America ship while we all go through the Panama Canal, and see Peru, Ecuador, Panama, and Chile. Click here for my page showing the classes I’ll teach, the itinerary, and more info! Or go to the CraftCruises.com website to read even more!
Enjoy your summer. I’m gonna get back on track with the newsletter—July is in less than two weeks!
