WHAT I'VE BEEN UP TO...
Hi there everyone!
This is the last newsletter I will write on the platform (iContact). The next newsletter will live here on Substack and the link is here:
Next month there will be no email showing up in your email box from iConact.com, but hopefully there will be one from Substack. All you need to do, if you still want to get the newsletter, is to click “Subscribe”. Well maybe you need to add your email address too. This is a free newsletter, but if you would like to support my efforts monetarily, you can make it a paid subscription. Either way I am happy you are reading my newsletter!
Many thanks to those of you commiserating with me on feeling sick-it made me feel better! As mentioned last month, I spent most of April in Maryland, teaching for Lancaster Yarn Shop’s retreat and visiting my family there. Pretty much most of the month I was sleeping, trying to get over bronchitis. It was sort of depressing, as I had no energy, but at least I saw my sister and brother and the kids. I had a good day near the end of my stay as we indulged in our beloved and time-honored Maryland past-time: a crab feast. And they were so good!

2025 INTERNATIONAL TRIPS
Northern Italy, Sept. 25-Oct 6 There is nothing like Italy! You can look at my web page about this trip and see the highlights of the journey, where we stop, what we do and see. You can even download this brochure of the trip, by clicking the ”Brochure” button below. Opulent Quilt Journeys is arranging this tour. I have been on two other trips with them and it is always wonderful! We'll learn about Estonian Roosimine mitts in my knitting class. Please join us!
The Panama Canal, Nov 17 - Dec 6 On this Holland America cruise through Craft cruises.com, we’ll take a day of leisure, as we go through the Panama Canal, to watch the process of the locks lowering and raising the water level so that our ship can go through. What fun! I’ll be teaching my famous Gansey class, a brand-new class on Peruvian techniques, Twined Textured Fingerless Mitts, and Finnish Mitts.
PATREON
I hope you will visit my Patreon page. You can become a free member to read a post or two per month. If you become a paid member, you will be eligible to receive patterns, and can read all the posts. I will be starting a new class online to teach my patrons about traditional garments.
UPCOMING WORKSHOPS
My teaching schedule for the rest of 2025 is planned for a comfortable pace, Check my workshop calendar on my website for more information and details.
Beth's Spring Vermont Retreat, Dummerston, May 15-19 The Norwegian Setesdal Lusekofte is still a classic garment worn today. It developed in the early 1800s, and was used as wedding attire, as well as for plowing the fields. Embroidery (loyesaum) embellished the neck, collar, and cuffs. You can join the waiting list.
Northern Italy! Sept 28-Oct 6 I can barely contain my excitement about this trip! I have taken knitters to the southern part of Italy and the middle, and now we will go to the northern area, where Venice and Milan are. Besides museums and shopping, we will go to an island where lace is made, take a cooking class, and see the land as we travel by coach to different areas. Let's GO-get the brochure. More info on my website!
Beth’s Autumn Vermont Retreats, Dummerston, Oct 30- Nov 2 The Swedish North Halland Red and Black Pullover is our focus for this retreat. I learned of them in 1997 on my first trip to Sweden and was very lucky to see several of them. Interesting details are a part of this garment made for pay, only for men. You can join the waiting list.
Cruise the Panama Canal! Nov 17-Dec 6 We’ll start in St. Petersburg, Fl and go through the Panama Canal. Then we will visit Ecuador, Peru, and Chile. I’ll be teaching four classes which you can read about on the Craft Cruises website. We have a lot of fun!
I appreciate your support in reading my newsletter. I have been writing this a long time. The oldest issue on my computer is from 2015, but I also wrote long before that. I enjoy this and I hope you do too. I’ll see you on Substack next month!
Warmly, Beth
